Guayaquil was the final city we visited in Ecuador Guayaquil was the final city we visited in Ecuador. It was significantly different than Quito, being a coastal city, and felt rougher overall. It was still great to visit and we had fun riding the cable car public transportation and exploring one of the largest cemeteries in South America.
During my Ecuador trip I visited the island of San During my Ecuador trip I visited the island of San Cristobal, which is one of the Galápagos Islands. Giant tortoises, diving iguanas, blue footed boobies, hundreds and hundreds of sea lions and more call these islands home. Sadly no diving this trip, but I’ll be back to swim with lots more ocean creatures eventually.
Quito is the second highest capital city in the wo Quito is the second highest capital city in the world at 9350ft. You definitely felt the reduced oxygen waking around the city. Just outside of Quito is the equator line splitting up the northern and south hemisphere. Overall a really nice area to visit.
After a long 5 hour drive through the mountain ran After a long 5 hour drive through the mountain ranges outside of Quito is Tena, part of the Amazon rain forest. We had a couple nights in a lodge in the forest and took a few hikes and boat rides and saw several things that can kill you :)
This was my 4th time visiting London and finally g This was my 4th time visiting London and finally got a chance to visit the Churchill war rooms which was very worth seeing. Also found the tube station with the longest escalator (Angel Station with a vertical rise of 27m and overall length of 61m). I’m still not a huge London fan but we had great weather and the crowds weren’t too bad yet.
We took a day trip from London to Oxford to explor We took a day trip from London to Oxford to explore several of the colleges that make up the University of Oxford. The age of some of them is crazy, oldest from the mid 13th century. The town was gorgeous and led to several of the scenes in Harry Potter movies as well as inspiration for Tolkien and CS Lewis’ books.
While in Scotland we got out to the highlands for While in Scotland we got out to the highlands for a day. Beyond gorgeous with amazing weather for us.
First time visiting Scotland and while it doesn’ First time visiting Scotland and while it doesn’t up my country count, it was definitely worth the visit. Edinburgh was so amazing as a capital city and amazingly walkable.
The final part of my Middle East trip was UAE. Mos The final part of my Middle East trip was UAE. Most of my time was spent in Dubai and it did not disappoint. Everything in the city is taken to 11 with so much more development planned. It’s very much lacking public transportation with taxis being pretty much it, this coupled with all the traffic was my only real complaint.
Headed out from Dubai to visit the capital city, A Headed out from Dubai to visit the capital city, Abu Dhabi. The level of contructiom here is off the charts as in other Middle East locales. Views from the Etihad Towers, touring the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque (building cost of $550m+), and a visit to the Abu Dhabi branch of the Louvre.

Riyadh was a gorgeous city with a mix of ancient f Riyadh was a gorgeous city with a mix of ancient forts to futuristic theme parks. Although, the traffic is killer and with all their mega projects I expect it’ll only get worse. Everyone was so welcoming and I can’t count the number of times I got thumbs up after saying I was American. Also was able to swing by our KSA user conference and meet some of our global folks.
Catching up on posting from Jeddah. This was my fi Catching up on posting from Jeddah. This was my first stop in KSA and was an incredible city. This country has only allowed tourist visas since 2019 and as such the tourism industry is still almost nonexistent. Thankfully I had a friend of a friend to show me around. There is so much construction going on across the kingdom for their vision 2030 projects that I can only imagine how much more tourist attractive it becomes in the future.

I had an absolutely wonderful time exploring, eati I had an absolutely wonderful time exploring, eating, and *drinking* across Bahrain. Known as the weekend party spot for rich Saudi and Kuwaitis, the level of opulence can be quite high. Stepping outside the main city to see beautiful Mosques, ~4000+ year old burial mounds, forts, traditional pottery crafting, all the camels, Bahrain’s International Circuit and 400 year old tree of life with no apparent water source; this country did not disappoint.

All over the capital city of Eritrea, Asmara. With All over the capital city of Eritrea, Asmara. With this being an Italian colony until the early 40s, and almost no new construction since then, you really get a retro, nostalgic sort of vibe from all the art deco architecture. Sometimes being known as the “North Korea of Africa” due to the totalitarian government, the people and food were amazing and I’m so glad I was able to find a way to obtain a visa to visit. It was a great first visit to Africa, my last continent aside from Antarctica eventually.
Kuwait was the first stop on this trip. Flying Qat Kuwait was the first stop on this trip. Flying Qatar’s Business class QSuite to DOH and then to KWI was amazing (especially if you can do it for free :) Kuwait City didn’t have too much to offer, beyond all the malls, but the Souk and Kuwait Towers were neat. It also yielded an easy route to one of the hardest countries to obtain a visa for and which I’ll post separately, Eritrea.
I had such a great time diving in Roatan, Honduras I had such a great time diving in Roatan, Honduras 🇭🇳 last week with #westenddivers. Huge sea turtles, swiftly swimming moray eels and all the schools of tropical fish in lovely 82 degree water.
